See Time Go By (2017)
with Jaume Clotet
Representing the millennial artist generation, Clàudia Del and Jaume Clotet make playful works that vary from mildly ironic conceptual pieces to beautiful visual productions. On http://rad-art.org they describe millennials and themselves 'as subjects [that] can be understood as a database.' This indeed radical statement can serve as the basis from which to view their work. The artists explicitly target overlaps between our personal, physical experience of reality and documented or mediatic approaches of the world and emphasize the latter's artificiality. Del and Clotet don't harshly criticize, but twist and lovingly refresh our mediatized gaze on the world. In Wifi Leaves they created a red carpet experience on a long winding country road in Italy. In their State of Mainstream installation they pulled together a remix of Mark Leckey's Big Box Statue Action, H&M ad photos and YouTube instruction videos on how to make trance music. See Time Go By, which we show here in Appearances, is a video that was originally part of an installation, in which the viewer is invited to lay down on beds made of fake grass for a mesmerizing YouTube-like view of the sky.
